Here’s the weekly email everyone! Enjoy!
From Kim:
Evaluations
Lab Assistants and Lab Consultants, keep working on those End of Semester Evaluations. They are due on the 17th and everyone should do 4. Do them thoroughly and well, so that Kim can have the pleasure of reading all about our supervisors. Let Kim know if you have questions.
Group Leader
Group Leader Evaluations were due today. Thanks for your great work.
Laptop Checkout
Check with your group leader or any supervisor you work with to make sure you are doing the Laptop Checkout correctly since the laptop website has had some changes made to it. If you have questions, direct them to your supervisor or Kim.
From Jesse:
TRAINING REQUESTS FOR SPRING/SUMMER
If you want to request specific training for Spring/Summer terms, please do so now. IT Training is going to set its calendar for the entire summer in the next week. Yes, I’m aware you don’t know your availability all the way, but please e-mail me which classes you’d like to take, and when you’re generally available (i.e. Saturdays, TTh after 5, MW before 12). If you prefer the training was split over 4 weeks, meeting only once a week, make that request. If you prefer one four-hour block on a Friday morning, make that request.
Please be aware of any requirements you may want to meet for advancement (for example, you may want to request Excel Data Analysis or Photoshop Foundations). Be aware that there are many IT Training classes that have never been offered to you guys because of a lack of demand, such as the Access advanced classes or Photoshop advanced classes. If you are interested, request them! The Access classes would be especially useful for your professional development and help you get better jobs in the future by expanding your skill set (plus, you’d be able to help patrons better in the labs).
As you make requests, please keep in mind that you can’t request unparallel times (i.e. Monday at 2:00PM, then Thursday at 9:00 AM, and just finish it up Friday sometime). You are all familiar with the general scheduling method, so to help IT Training better fit your needs, make doable requests. If you end up not being able to attend a class you request, it’s alright, other people will sign up for it. It’s better to error on the side of requesting more classes, because that way we make sure they’re offered.
From Brad:
Keyboard Security
A nasty little hardware device showed up in the library this week. It is a small USB plug that you stick on the end of the USB keyboard cable. It then records everything that people type. It is a way to bypass all the security that usually protects our passwords on computers. As you move about the labs, will you keep an eye out for these devices? If you find them, contact me immediately; it is the sort of thing that turned into an FBI investigation last time it occurred.
From Kyle:
Congratulations
Our new Shift Supervisors are Hannah Richins, Seth Hord, Chris Ruoti, Jason Layton, and Jaewon Hwang!
From the OCs:
Pending Orders
Please remember to fill out pending orders. Submit the delivered inventory right after it is delivered from either Signature Printing or a Shift Supervisor so you don’t forget later! Thanks!
Thanks! Have a great week! Enjoy the last day of classes tomorrow and good luck on finals!
