Weekly Email

Welcome back to school. Here is the weekly email. Enjoy!

From the OCs:

The SWKT Phone

The SWKT currently does not have a working phone. If you need to contact the SWKT please use the radio to call either the supervisors or to call the OCs and we can pass along a message. Let us know if you have any problems. An order has been submitted for the network jack to be configured correctly, but it may take a few days. We will let you know when it is working again.

Orientation Meetings

Tonight at 7:00 pm is New Employee Orientation. All new employees are required to attend. This meeting is in the McDonald building, where you met your Supervisor for training, or where your interview took place. Let the OCs know if you have any questions.

Employee Orientation is Wednesday, September 1st, at 7:00 pm in 3224 of the WILK. All employees are required to attend. Email the OCs if you have class and you will be excused.

Please note that the dress code applies at both of these meetings.

From Phil:

If you need something changed with your schedule for this fall, there will be an opportunity to meet with other employees after orientation on Wednesday to trade shifts. In the meantime, please do not put up any hours for sub after this week, seeing as the long term schedule will need to be altered when people trade shifts.

From Spencer:

Remember that there are many new people on campus who don’t know about the labs, or who don’t know how to print among other things. So, while you are at work be assertive and go to the patron, asking if they need help.

From Jesse:

                Pharos Remote Changes

The Pharos Remote works a little differently now.  Please look at http://train.byu.edu/labs/pharostutorial/pharostutorial/pharostutorial.html for a short, two-minute tutorial to learn about all these changes.

Call if you have any questions. Have a great week and we’ll see you at the orientation meetings!

Education Week

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the 3rd email today. But we just found out about this and it’s important for everyone to know about it.

There is a guest log-in for Education Week:

Net ID: edwk

Password: yteachu

We are not advertising printing for education week participants, but if they ask you, go ahead and send through a courtesy print job.

If you have any questions or problems, please call. Thanks!

Another One

Sorry everyone. We had some confusion earlier. The SWKT lab is not open yet. It will most likely be a few more days before they are finished. If you are scheduled there, please check the SWKT to see if computers are set up, and then head to the Media Center.

Sorry. Thanks again

From Kim:

Education Week

Education week is this week, so the campus will be filled with many guests. In some ways you will represent BYU as well as OIT, and we ask that you represent both well. People may approach you with questions about computer access. You will need to direct them to the public computers in the library because we do not have public computer access. If they have questions about other things, help them out or call BYU-info to find them an answer if possible. Remember 422-INFO is your friend, and will help you help them. Thanks for all being such great employees. We are grateful to have all of you as our representation this week.

End of Semester Reviews

August 2-17th

Evaluations Tab

LA and LCs should all complete at least 3, but are welcome to do more. Of those three, one must be your group leader. Fill out the evaluations thoroughly…leave detailed comments so I know why you give them the rating you give them. I’m going to hold everyone to a higher standard when it comes to the completeness of the evaluations this time around. Let me know if you have questions, and remember they are due on the 17th. Don’t put them off!

From Phil:

Schedule

Please make sure that as you submit your availability that you only black out hours that you have classes or other firm , recurring commitments. If there are hours that you would prefer not to work but are physically able to, please leave those hours blank. Failure to submit an accurate availability is unfair to your fellow employees and will be considered negatively in you semester review. For the most everyone’s availability looks great. Thanks for being on top of it!

From the OCs:

SWKT

The SWKT is opening again. If you have shifts scheduled in that lab, you no longer need to go to the Media Center. Feel free to call the OCs with questions or problems.

Thanks and have a great week!

SWKT Lab

Sorry for the last minute email, but this is important and we want to be sure that everyone understands what is happening.

We wanted to let you all know that the carpet in the SWKT computer lab is being replaced. All of the computers and currently being moved out of the lab. It will be closed for the next few days while they are finishing that up. If you are scheduled in the SWKT during the next few days, please go check and see if the lab is reopened at the beginning of your shift. If not, just head up to the Media Center lab for the rest of your shift.

Sorry for the confusion. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to call me.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

From Phil:

I am working on the Fall 2010 schedule, which will begin on the 28th of August, the Saturday before school starts. I will be using the availability that you currently have posted on the internal website. If it needs to be updated please do so immediately. As of Tuesday your availability will be locked in as the schedule begins to take shape. After this point you will be responsible to find someone to cover your shifts if you cannot work it because of a schedule change.

As the hiring process draws to a close I want to say thank you for all of the wonderful referrals that you sent our way. It is a measure of the quality of our employees that we are networked with so many qualified, experienced individuals. Of course, due the large number of applicants and referrals, we could not interview or hire all of them. If you know someone who wasn’t interviewed or hired this round of applications please encourage them to continue to gain experience and reapply in the future.

From the OCs:

Erika’s last day is tomorrow. If you need to get in touch with the OCs email oat@byu.edu or Rebecca at her direct email. Jesse is back. If you have questions or concerns with Training feel free to contact Jesse now!

Have a great week. Hope to see you all at the potluck!

Surplus Sale Help

Hello everyone!

There is a surplus sale today at the Elsworth Building, and they need 4-6 people to help out with running the sale.  This is a great opportunity for you to get a few more hours of work,  since you’ll be allowed to clock in if you are helping run the sale.  They would need you to report to the Elsworth Building at 3:30 PM today and work until 6:00 PM.  Let us know if you’re interested in helping as soon as you can!

Thanks!
