Enjoy!

From Phil:

Shifts

With the rotating shifts on weekends it can be easy to forget when you are scheduled outside of your usual routine. Make sure to look ahead at future weeks as you look at the schedule and make plans. Also, the Mobile Alerts application can be useful in reminding you about your shifts that are outside of what you are normally scheduled. It can be found under the Communication tab.

From Kim:

Quick Reference Cards

Ask your group leader what they are, where they can be found, and what they are good for.

Another Potluck!

The last potluck was a great get-together, so, why not do it again. It is planned for August 10th, at 7 PM in Rock Canyon Park. There will be games and food. But what kind of food? The poll has been answered, and it looks like a tie. That was one thing I wasn’t planning on. Here’s the compromise: those who voted for the pizza potluck can each chip in for pizzas, those who voted for a sandwich or salad potluck sign up for the fixings for salads and sandwiches. Then we can all share! A poll will be up for an RSVP from the 19th until the 28th. It is important to answer the poll so we know how much food to plan for and assign out. Let me know if you have any questions!

End of Semester Reviews

The wonderful Spring/Summer is coming to a close. That means all the lab assistants and lab consultants get the chance to evaluate the supervisors. End of Semester Reviews will be open under the Evaluations tab August 2-17th. LA and LCs should all complete at least 3, but are welcome to do more. Of those three, one must be your group leader. Fill out the evaluations thoroughly…leave detailed comments so I know why you give them the rating you give them. I’m going to hold everyone to a higher standard when it comes to the completeness of the evaluations this time around. Let me know if you have questions, and remember they are due on the 17th. Don’t put them off!

Keep up the great work!

Weekly email

Just a few important items this week- enjoy!

From the OCs:

SWKT Classrooms

Just a reminder of the policy for scheduling the SWKT Classrooms—if anyone asks you to reserve a classroom for them, refer them to the OCs.  Writing their class on the copy of the calendar hanging in the SWKT does not actually put them on the schedule.  There is a sign posted behind the Lab Assistant desk as a reminder, which includes the OC phone number.  Let us know if you have any questions about this.

Candy Bar Reward

A lot of computers are now on Windows 7!  This is very exciting, but the Windows 7 image isn’t perfect yet.  If you find a bug in the image, email oat-support@byu.edu and cc oat@byu.edu and you can get a full size candy bar if no one has reported that bug yet.  This is a great opportunity for you to get some candy and for us to improve our computers!

Weekly Email

From the OCs:

Pending Orders

Please remember to fill out pending orders! It really helps us to know when things are delivered to each lab. Thanks!

Technician Phone

The Technicians have a phone again. You can just call their line directly now, instead of calling the OCs.

Rebecca

Rebecca is going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks. So if you need anything, contact Erika.

Counting Inventory

Inventory in 2212 HBLL isn’t getting counted on Fridays.  If you work in 2210 on Fridays, make sure you go in there to count inventory.  Supervisors, you should be checking to make sure it gets done.

From Kim:

Cell Phone/Chat Policy

Just a reminder, use of cell phones in the labs is against policy. Please do not check texts or missed calls. Also, the use of chat programs (g-talk, gmail chat, facebook chat, aim, etc.) are also against policy. They distract our attention from the labs. I have noticed a number of people logged into these chat programs while at work. Please log out when on shift.

Another Potluck!

The last potluck was a great get together, so, why not do it again. It is tentatively planned for the second week of August, at 7 PM in Rock Canyon Park. There will be games and food. But what kind of food? Well, that’s up to you. Answer your poll question by the end of the week to put in your two cents. Let me know if you have any questions!

SWKT Guest Printing

Sorry for the mid-week email, but this is rather important.

A group called StarTalk Arabic is using our labs for the summer.  They have a guest username and password that should work in the SWKT and Media Center.  However, they are not supposed to be printing.  The Summer Scholars group that came in last week was authorized to print, and we kept a tally of their printing so the department could be charged accordingly, however, StarTalk Arabic has made no such arrangement with us.  So do not send through print jobs for StarTalk Arabic Participants.  Their instructors have cards to use for printing, so if a participant tells you that they need to print something, remind them that they have to do any and all printing through their teachers.

Thank you.  Let us know if you have any questions.

Weekly email

We have a very short email for you today, with just one item from the support techs:

Dear Lab Assistants,

We just wanted to let you know that we're closing the SWKT 109 for a few hours tomorrow morning to replace the machines with new ones.  This'll reduce your support needs and hopefully make the SWKT labs a better environment for your patrons.  If you have any questions, just let us know.  You can call the OCs, since we still haven’t set up our phone.

Keep up the great work!
